Hungary needs unity, cooperation and security, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in a video message published on Friday, urging voters to take part in Sunday’s parliamentary election and support the ruling parties.
In the video, titled Message to Every Hungarian, Orbán said the current period is not a time for division, anger or hostility, but for national unity in the face of mounting challenges.
‘We are calling for national unity, and in the major European crisis ahead of us we will protect every Hungarian family,’ the prime minister said.
He added that voters would not only be choosing a government on Sunday, but also ‘deciding the fate of the country’.
Reflecting on the past 16 years, Orbán said Hungary had been transformed from a ‘crumbling country’ into a stable and secure state. He highlighted a series of government measures, including reducing external financial dependence, creating jobs and strengthening household finances.
Among the achievements he listed were the removal of the International Monetary Fund from Hungary’s financial affairs, increased taxation on banks and multinational companies, and the creation of one million jobs.
He also pointed to pension measures, including additional monthly payments, as well as wage growth driven by minimum wage increases. Orbán said the government had introduced policies to shield households from rising energy and fuel costs.
The prime minister also emphasized measures aimed at border protection and migration control, including the construction of border barriers. He said the government had taken a firm stance on key international issues, including opposition to war-related policies promoted at the European level.
At the same time, Orbán warned that the achievements of recent years could be at risk due to global developments, including ongoing conflicts and a potential energy and financial crisis affecting Europe.
He accused political opponents of attempting to gain power through destabilizing actions, alleging cooperation with foreign actors, threats against government supporters and efforts to undermine trust in the electoral process.
According to Orbán, these actions amount to an organized attempt to challenge the legitimacy of voters’ decisions through pressure and international criticism.
The prime minister called on citizens to engage with family members, friends and acquaintances in the final days of the campaign, stressing that the stakes are high and that stability should be prioritized.
He concluded by urging voters to support the ruling Fidesz–KDNP alliance, describing it as a reliable choice in an uncertain international environment.
