Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has recently made an appearance on the Polish TV channel wPolsce24, where he talked about the adversarial relationship between him and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk, the election victory of President Karol Nawrocki earlier this year, and a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

‘Donald Tusk hates me,’ Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary has told the Polish wPolsce24 TV channel about his Polish counterpart. The Hungarian head of state made an appearance on foreign television on Tuesday, 29 July.

He has also lauded President Karol Nawrocki’s victory in the presidential election in Poland in June of this year. Nawrocki is an independent who was backed by the right-wing populist PiS party, a close ally to PM Orbán’s Fidesz party in Hungary.

‘I would say that one of the most important characteristics of Hungarians is loyalty. We are still loyal to our friends who fought alongside us in many battles, especially in Brussels. Poland is larger than Hungary; at one point, its political power under party leader Jarosław Kaczyński and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki helped ease the pressure on Hungary from Brussels. I remember those times very well,’ the Hungarian Prime Minister has told the Polish audience.

‘What is happening in Poland is completely unacceptable, contrary to the law, morality, and democracy. It is shameful that the authorities of the European Union, who govern the community to which we all belong, not only remain silent but even support the Polish prime minister's policies. From the perspective of European values, this is completely unacceptable,’ he added, speaking about the deeds of the Tusk administration.

On the topic of the Russo–Ukrainian war, PM Orbán has stated that he believes a ceasefire could only be made if there is a direct meeting between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. ‘This is not a war between Ukraine and Russia. This is a war between the West and Russia. And Donald Trump is the leader of the West,’ he explained.
