The average gross wage of full-time employees in Hungary stood at 687,100 forints in September 2025, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday. Net earnings reached 475,100 forints. Compared to the same month a year earlier, gross wages increased by 9.5 per cent, net wages by 10 per cent, and real wages by 5.5 per cent.
KSH noted that the faster rise in net wages was largely due to the higher family tax allowances introduced on 1 July 2025, which boosted take-home pay.
The median gross wage reached 568,700 forints, while the median net wage amounted to 397,400 forints, annual increases of 10.4 per cent and 11.1 per cent, respectively.
Regular gross earnings—excluding bonuses, premiums and one-off payments—averaged 660,400 forints in September, 9.3 per cent higher than a year earlier. Within this, regular gross wages were 656,300 forints in the business sector, 664,200 forints in the public sector and 689,200 forints in the nonprofit sector, rising by 8.6 per cent, 11.2 per cent and 10.2 per cent year-on-year.
Real wages grew by 5.5 per cent, supported by a 4.3 per cent increase in consumer prices over the same period.
Between January and September 2025, the gross average wage of full-time employees reached 691,200 forints, while net earnings averaged 476,000 forints. Over the first nine months of the year, gross wages rose by 9.1 per cent and net wages by 9.2 per cent compared with the same period in 2024.
