Fuel prices in Hungary have once again fallen below the regional average, meeting the government’s expectations for June, the Ministry for National Economy (NGM) announced on Saturday. The drop follows a brief price surge caused by the earlier escalation in the Middle East.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, the average price of 95-octane petrol in Hungary last month was 591 forints per litre—6 forints less than the average price of 597 forints across neighbouring countries. Diesel followed a similar pattern, averaging 590 forints per litre in Hungary versus 596 forints in the region.
The NGM emphasized that Hungarian families are now paying less for both petrol and diesel than their counterparts in neighbouring states, calling the figures a sign of effective government action.
‘The government remains committed to ensuring that Hungarian households and businesses have access to competitively priced and predictable fuel at the pump,’ the statement noted. Officials continue to hold regular consultations with fuel distributors to safeguard price stability and reduce economic burdens.
The ministry also reaffirmed that it is monitoring international fuel markets closely and stands ready to introduce further measures if necessary to protect families and the domestic economy.
‘The expectation remains clear: Hungarian consumers should enjoy better fuel prices than those in neighbouring countries,’ the NGM said.
