Fans attending the 40th Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix this August will experience a completely cashless event, as Hungarian-founded Festipay Ltd takes charge of on-site payment solutions. The Grand Prix will be held on the first weekend of August at the Hungaroring, and visitors can expect a more streamlined and modern experience when purchasing food, drinks, and merchandise.
Festipay announced on Wednesday that it will operate hundreds of contactless payment terminals across all hospitality zones at the venue. Transactions can be made via bank cards, mobile phones, or Festipay cards. For those arriving with cash, reloadable Festipay cards will be available—any unused funds can be refunded in full at the end of the event without any extra charges.
According to Attila Solti, board member of Festipay Ltd, the system has already proven successful internationally, including at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The move is part of a broader modernization of the Hungaroring and aims to provide a safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable experience for all attendees.
‘This is part of Hungaroring’s ongoing renewal,’ CEO of Hungaroring Sport Ltd Zsolt Gyulay said. ‘Cashless payments contribute to a faster, more secure and European-standard experience for fans.’
Festipay, Central Europe’s leading integrated event management service provider, continues to grow steadily. The company reported a 3 per cent revenue increase in 2024, reaching 1.26 billion forints, while its net profit jumped from 5.3 million to nearly 138 million forints. The firm employs around 300 seasonal workers during the summer festival period.
As one of the highlights of the F1 calendar, the Hungarian Grand Prix is set to offer fans not only thrilling racing action but also a taste of digital innovation in event management.
