The following is the English translation of a press release kindly provided to us by MCC Brussels.
The EU repeatedly uses its institutions for self-justification—and this extends to the improper use of tools that are intended to be independent and scientific, such as surveys and questionnaires.
The latest Eurobarometer opinion poll, published this month, is a good example of this, with the vast majority of respondents supporting more projects funded at the EU level (as opposed to those funded by Member States) and supporting the EU obtaining ‘new types of revenue sources.’ It is far from certain that respondents are aware that this means more taxes.
In the ‘name of democracy’, official EU bodies are skewing their questions in their polls to get the answers they want.
MCC Brussels has drawn attention to this in a post on X, writing: ‘Eurobarometer [is] manufacturing consent once again. What a surprise! The EU’s pet polling agency finds people want new “EU revenue sources”. The insanely biased—in fact sociologically fraudulent—survey didn’t ask the obvious [question]: would you pay more tax?’

Professor Bill Durodié—Professor of Politics, Languages & International Studies at the University of Bath, visiting professor at MCC Brussels—has shown that Eurobarometer routinely tells the EU elite what they want to hear.
