Center for Fundamental Rights Senior Fellow Bryan Leib has recently visited Budapest, Hungary, to take part in the Centre’s Central European Summit, featuring US Embassy in Hungary Chargé d’Affaires Robert Palladino, earlier this month.
At the event, Mr Leib was one of the participants in a panel discussion about the economic potential of the central European region. He spoke about how, with the election of President Donald Trump in the US in 2024, each nation’s national interest has come to the forefront in geopolitics again. However, he also stressed that ‘America First does not mean America alone’.
During his most recent stay in the Hungarian capital, Mr Leib was also interviewed by the Hungarian public television station M1. He posted a short clip from that interview, dubbed in Hungarian, to his X page. The segment is about the Hungarian government’s adversarial relationship with the European Union leadership.
Bryan E. Leib on X (formerly Twitter): “🇺🇲💪🇭🇺 This clip from an interview last week in Hungary has gone viral! Just as President @realDonaldTrump is fighting the deep state in America, @PM_ViktorOrban is doing the same in Brussels. Fight, fight, fight! pic.twitter.com/rO71Od3um8 / X”

‘Hungary has been fighting with Brussels for a long time, and in my opinion, as an American, Hungary should continue its fight. Because what the EU and Brussels are doing against Hungary is unacceptable,’ Mr Leib told M1.
‘This big governmental body in Brussels is telling Viktor Orbán and the Hungarian people how to live their lives, what to spend their money on, and to accept migrants—it’s absurd! I think the Prime Minister was very smart to resist that, that he did not cave to Brussels, and I think this will continue. He has President Trump by his side now, that is the X factor. He has such an amazing relationship with the leader of the free world, the President of the United States, the Commander-in-Chief, so I believe we will stand by Hungary on the matter of the EU,’ the Hungarian conservative think tank’s Senior Fellow concluded.
He ended the text in his X post sharing the clip with ‘Figh, fight, fight!’, the famous words spoken by President Trump as he was ushered away by Secret Service agents after his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania in July 2024. This time, however, Mr Leib is using these words to encourage the Hungarian leadership to keep standing up to globalist pressure coming from Brussels. He also drew a parallel between President Trump’s fight against the deep state in the US and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s grapple against EU bureaucrats in Hungary.
This is the second interview Bryan Leib gave to the Hungarian state media. The first one aired back in February of this year.
