Hungary has evacuated 989 people, including 892 Hungarian citizens, from the Middle East through government-organized flights, according to Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. Additional evacuation flights may be launched this week if demand continues.

Hungary has so far evacuated 989 people, including 892 Hungarian citizens, from the Middle East through government-organized evacuation flights, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Tuesday in Budapest.

According to a statement from the ministry, the evacuations are taking place amid continued intense fighting in the region. The minister said that Iran continues to launch major missile attacks against Arab countries, while the use of regional airspace remains limited due to the security situation.

Despite these restrictions, some commercial connections have resumed. Airlines based in the United Arab Emirates are currently operating one scheduled flight each day from Dubai to Budapest, allowing some Hungarian citizens stranded in the region to return home using regular flights.

Szijjártó noted that the most recent two evacuation flights landed at dawn from Muscat, the capital of Oman, carrying a total of 180 passengers.

‘In total, we have brought home 989 people from the region so far, including 892 Hungarians,’ the minister said, adding that another evacuation flight will depart directly from Dubai later on Tuesday.

The Hungarian government has also chartered a special aircraft from Flydubai, which is expected to transport 166 passengers to Hungary.

The minister added that Hungarian citizens still stranded in Dubai will again be offered the option of travelling by organized bus transport to Muscat, from where they can board evacuation flights back to Hungary.

‘At least one such flight will operate this week, and if there is additional demand, we will launch further evacuation flights in the coming days,’ Szijjártó said.
