A bombshell report from the US House Judiciary Committee exposes how the EU has spent a decade hijacking the global internet to censor political speech. From the 2023 Dutch elections to the 2024 European Parliament vote, Brussels pressured Big Tech to silence conservative voices.

The US House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Rep Jim Jordan, has published a bombshell report detailing how the European Union has restricted and censored online free speech over the past decade. Reviewing the report, Dutch conservative political activist Eva Vlaardingerbroek identified evidence of at least eight elections in which the European Commission interfered by meeting with social media platforms to pressure them to censor political speech in the days before the vote.

The report, titled The Foreign Censorship Threat, Part II, exposes a decade-long clandestine campaign by Brussels to exercise control over the global internet. According to subpoenaed documents, the EU held over 100 closed-door meetings to coerce Big Tech into adopting voluntary censorship codes. Because platforms utilize global Terms of Service, these mandates effectively forced American companies to silence US citizens on topics such as mass migration, COVID-19, and gender issues to satisfy European bureaucrats.

The most damning evidence details active interference in at least eight European elections, including the Dutch elections of 2023 and 2025, the 2024 European Parliament elections, the 2024 French legislative elections, and the 2024 Belgian regional elections. It further cites the 2024 German state elections in Thuringia and Saxony, the 2023 Polish parliamentary elections, and the Spanish general elections of the same year. In all these instances, the European Commission held high-pressure, pre-election meetings with social media giants to demand the suppression of specific, predominantly conservative, political narratives.

Vlaardingerbroek said that during the 2023 Dutch vote, the European Commission designated then-Interior Minister Hugo de Jonge as a ‘trusted flagger’ under the Digital Services Act (DSA). This status granted a government official priority power to demand the removal of illegal content, effectively permitting the administration to determine what information was accessible to voters.

The ‘forbidden’ categories targeted for suppression include:

  • ‘Populist rhetoric’ and ‘anti-elite or anti-EU’ content;
  • Political satire and meme subculture;
  • ‘Anti-refugee’ sentiment;
  • ‘Anti-LGBTQI’ content and essentially any speech critical of the prevailing establishment.

The report identifies Elon Musk’s X as the sole entity resisting this censorship industrial complex. While other platforms capitulated under the threat of fines totaling 6 per cent of global revenue, X’s refusal to comply resulted in a retaliatory €120 million fine in late 2025. Vlaardingerbroek noted that the crackdown has escalated to the point of French authorities raiding X’s offices, an action she described as the death of democracy.

Chairman Jordan warned that this issue is not confined to Europe. By leveraging the Brussels Effect, the EU is successfully exporting its restrictive speech standards to the US, thereby bypassing the First Amendment. The Committee’s findings suggest that if an American posts a populist meme in Ohio, it may be removed by a California-based company simply to avoid a fine from Europe.

‘This is the type of stuff over which governments should resign and institutions like the EU should fall. Abolish the EU! Now!’ Vlaardingerbroek concluded in her post.
