On 4 July, former US Vice President Kamala Harris posted a celebratory photo on X of herself and her husband watching some fireworks—only for users to discover that she had cropped out President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden from the original picture. What's behind the awkward move?

Only about a year after being forced out of the nomination, poor old President Joe Biden had to endure another act of humiliation coming from his own party—although this time, of a lot smaller magnitude.

It was late July last year when the now-infamous post appeared on President Biden’s X account, announcing that he would be dropping out of his reelection bid. On 4 July 2025, he and the rest of America were celebrating Independence Day. On the occasion, Vice President Kamala Harris, who served as VP under him and who replaced him on top of the Democratic ticket, posted a photo of her and her husband watching some fireworks.

So far, that seems like nothing out of the ordinary. However, soon X users realized that the photo she posted is actually from 2024. In the original picture, Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff were standing next to President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The Bidens, however, were clumsily cropped out of the picture.

This seems to be a type of petty move young people would do to their ex-partners…

Former campaign adviser for Robert F Kennedy Jr’s independent presidential campaign Link Lauren was one of the people on X who called out the incident. He shared the original image, along with the caption ‘Kamala cropping Joe out is very symbolic’.

Kamala Harris is yet to comment on why she chose to cut out the Bidens from her celebratory 4 July post. Her caption on the original post reads: ‘This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better. But I love our country — and when you love something, you fight for it. Together, we will continue to fight for the ideals of our nation.’

There were speculations about tensions between Vice President Harris and President Biden after the infamous candidate switch. On the campaign trail, President Trump has even claimed that Biden ‘hates’ his own VP. After the election, however, they made a joint appearance at the Democratic National Convention’s holiday party in December 2024 in Washington, DC, where the two appeared to be on good terms.

What Is Joe Biden Up To Now?

President Joe Biden left office with very low approval ratings. Some polling also showed voters ranking him the worst President in modern history.

These days, the 46th POTUS is reportedly working on another autobiography. He has already published one with the title Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics, which came out in August 2008. His bizarre statements also did not stop with his leaving the presidency. At a meeting of the Society for Human Resource Management in San Diego, California last week, he claimed that European leaders are calling him, asking him to get engaged in US foreign policy again.

Sadly, President Biden has also revealed after leaving office that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
