A 34-year-old Sudanese asylum seeker stabbed three people on Sunday, 5 July in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Around 2pm, police started receiving calls from the public about a man threatening people with a knife. Once law enforcement arrived, the suspect also attempted to stab a responding police officer in the neck, but he was shot by another officer on the scene. The perp has survived his injuries and has been transported to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Thus, he can face charges.
His three victims, although severely wounded, are also expected to survive, according to a statement by the National Police of France about the incident, as quoted by Francinfo.fr.
The police also shared that the suspect had prior convictions and that they do not believe, at this stage of the investigation, that he has ties to any terrorist organizations. Despite his prior crimes, he was never deported.
The popular right-wing X account Visegrád 24 has also posted about the stabbing.
In their post, they point out that the number of Sudanese migrants coming into France and other European countries has been increasing lately, due to the civil war in the African country, ongoing since 2023. With the war dragging on, many domestic refugees of Sudan have given up the hope of returning to their homes and are now attempting to make their way to Europe, Visegrád 24 writes.
This carries a significant terror threat to the Old Continent, as much of Sudan is under the control of the Islamist terror group Muslim Brotherhood.
