The right-wing populist ANO party won the parliamentary election held on 3–4 October 2025 in Czechia. ANO secured 80 out of the 200 seats in the Parliament of the Czech Republic, far ahead of the runner-up centre-right ODS-SPOLU coalition, which won 52 seats.
However, they still fell short of the 101 seats needed for a majority, thus negotiations to form a governing coalition have started, potentially with the far-right SDP or the fellow right-wing populist AUTO party (also known as the Motorists).
In the popular vote, ANO outperformed the ODS coalition by double digits in percentage points. The former got 34.5 per cent of the vote, while the latter got 23.4 per cent.
On top of the ANO ticket is Andrej Babiš, who is now the presumptive next Prime Minister of Czechia. Babiš has already served as the head of government in his country between 2017 and 2021. During his tenure, he maintained a close relationship with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary, with whom he shares similar views on migration and national sovereignty of EU Member States. Both Czechia and Hungary are also members of the Visegrád 4 alliance, along with Poland and Slovakia.
PM Orbán has congratulated Babiš on his victory in a post on the social media platform X.
Prime Minister Babiš was also one of the featured speakers at CPAC Hungary 2025, held in Budapest, Hungary in May of this year.
