The Competition

The Advent Feast at the Basilica in Budapest has once again received more votes than ever before and has been named the best Christmas fair in all of Europe. The most popular travel website on the continent, European Best Destination, hosted the voting that was launched on 25 November. In 2019 and 2021, the market known as the Advent Feast at the Basilica (or Advent Basilica, for short) also triumphed over other prominent European Christmas fairs and similar festive events in towns like Vienna, Gdansk, Basel, Prague, and Brussels.

The Advent Feast at the Basilica held in the capital of Hungary in the heart of Budapest in front of St Stephen’s Basilica, includes a 12-metre-tall Christmas tree, light painting, a selfie area, an ice rink, and almost 120 high-quality handicraft and culinary exhibitors.

The Fair This Year

‘Where love takes your hand’ is the tagline of this year’s fair, which opened on 18 November and will be open until 1 January. The exquisite market is located in one of the most remarkable, stunningly beautiful squares in the Hungarian capital, in front of St Stephen’s Basilica.

In keeping with its 12-year tradition, the Advent Basilica this year offers a special festive environment centred around 120 domestic artisan exhibitors, authentic gastronomic delights and heart-warming events. St Stephen’s Square will once again radiate a homey Christmas spirit.

But Advent Basilica will also spread the spirit of generosity. In order to help the less fortunate, several stalls of charitable organizations will be selling merchandise and otherwise collect donations, reminding visitors that Christmastime is also about compassion.
