Incumbent conservative judge Andrew Pinson beat his liberal challenger John Barrow by 10 points in an election for a seat on the Supreme Court of Georgia last Friday. That is despite the fact that Barrow made abortion rights the centre message of the campaign, which is perceived as one of the strongest issues for Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.

‘Would foetal personhood norms ultimately eliminate abortion? No, of course not…Yet human life would at least be recognized to begin at conception—this is already admitted by those who procure and consume the “morning after pill”.’

On Tuesday Kansas voted on an amendment that was supposed to remove abortion rights protections from its state constitution. The majority of Kansans rejected the amendment in a referendum that saw a record high turnout.

Court packing will not solve the long-term problems regarding the role of the Supreme Court in American government and American life.
