The government decree limiting mobile phone use in schools was issued in early August and will take effect in September. According to a recent survey published on Wednesday, an overwhelming majority of Hungarians, 85 per cent, support the ban.

The Hungarian community in Mukachevo has been harassed in a number of ways by the Ukrainian local authorities over the past year. Beside the attacks on the Hungarian secondary school, the municipality has been waging a war on all Hungarian symbols in the town, ordering the removal of Hungarian flags from public buildings and of the Turul statue from the Munkács Castle.

Earlier this year, referring to a fresh decree, the Ukrainian police removed Hungarian flags from several public institutions in the town, including the Hungarian-language secondary school. On 15 August, Marija Pauk, an ethnic Ukrainian with no connection to the Hungarian community or the school was appointed to lead the institution.

‘The goal of the MCC is for young people’s education to depend not on their financial situation but solely on their abilities and motivation,’ and to allow talented Hungarian students to utilise their enhanced knowledge acquired during foreign studies responsibly for the benefit of their country and local communities, Mathias Corvinus Collegium said in a statement calling for applications to their programmes.

At the inauguration ceremony of a new wing of a school building in Mór, Fejér County, minister of state for Public Education Zoltán Maruzsa stated that ‘the schools of tomorrow cannot be the same as the schools of yesterday’.

Hungarian weekend schools are also emerging in the farthest corners of the world, with new locations such as Tokyo, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore launching weekend Hungarian school activities for the local Hungarian diaspora communities.

Viktor Orbán emphasised at the event organised by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry that six out of ten students who finish their primary education continue their studies in vocational education in Hungary, with technical schools being the most popular choice.

‘While, as we can see, more and more Western governments support the over-sexualisation of children with LGTBQ programmes, Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga filed a counterclaim with the Court of Justice of the European Union in favour of the Hungarian Child Protection Act. She also highlighted in her Facebook post that Hungary will continue to “stand by its conviction and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union that education is a national competence and that parents have the right to decide on the upbringing of their children.”‘

Soltész pointed out that Pilisvörösvár is one of the most significant settlements of the German minority in Hungary. The State Secretary recalled also that the national minority scholarship recognises not only outstanding academic performance but also work for the community.
