The Gloster Group announced on Wednesday that it won BMW’s €15 million industrial software development contract through a multi-round international tender.

Speaking in Szolnok, State Secretary for Education Zoltán Maruzsa noted that notebooks are distributed at more than 3,000 distribution points not only in state institutions but also in church, minority, municipal, and foundation schools. In Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County alone 4,499 laptops of the total 193,000 will be handed out at sixty-two distribution points.

In the first two phases of the nationwide laptop programme launched in 2022, 260,000 portable computers were provided free of charge to upper-grade students, teachers, and educational institutions. From this week until the beginning of the summer break, an additional nearly 194,000 devices will be distributed, while starting from autumn 2024, current fourth and eighth graders will be next in line.

Among the twenty winners of this year’s New European Bauhaus Prizes the Hungarian project titled Cooperative Ownership of Communities won the New European Bauhaus Rising Stars prize in the ‘Regaining a sense of belonging’ category. The aim of the project is to promote ‘affordable housing and inclusivity through circular renovation and sustainable practices’.

According to Csaba Lantos, over 28,000 people have already pre-registered for the Solar Energy Plus programme, with over 15,000 subsidy applications received so far for the installation of solar panels and accompanying green energy storage units.

Among the nominees for Category B of the New European Bauhaus Prize there is a Hungarian project titled Cooperative Ownership for Communities. It aims to create a multifunctional space by transforming a four-story building in one of Budapest’s old industrial areas. The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 Ceremony will be held during the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels between 9 and ⁠13 April.

At a press conference titled Park City or Rákosdubai, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony stated that in April they will launch a month-long online voting process where every Budapest resident over the age of 14 with a registered address can express their views on the investment plans for Rákosrendező.

Industrial power plants and storage facilities can be connected to the grid by 2030, the Ministry of Energy announced. The current energy storage capacity of only twenty megawatts could increase twentyfold by 2026 and fiftyfold by 2030.

The target of six gigawatts was originally set to be achieved by 2030. However, since Hungary has already reached this goal, the government has raised the target to twelve gigawatts by the end of the same period.

Applications for the CSS programme are accepted on the Harvard Medical School website, requiring a professional CV, a cover letter, and a letter of recommendation. Early applications and submissions for the supportive scholarship are open until 12 May, with the final application deadline on 26 May.

The recently launched Solar Energy Plus Programme, announced just a month ago, allows private individuals with privately owned residential properties, beneficial use rights, or leasing agreements to use non-refundable support for renewable energy sources. Thanks to the funding covering two-thirds of their costs, supported households can produce green energy for their own use, and also store it for later use. The supported households become more capable of self-sustainability in terms of energy, effectively reducing their utility bills.

Alongside the distribution of laptops that started last year, more than 4,000 locations have been equipped with wireless internet access, and with a budget of 10 billion forints, the electrical networks of the relevant institutions have been renovated.

At the event, President of the Hungarian Research Network Balázs Gulyás spoke about how this inaugural scientific workshop aims to be the flagship of the John von Neumann Programme. The plan is to organize international conferences like this every three months.

The national solar energy map project aims to promote the use of solar energy and to provide information about the solar energy potential of the residences of those who are considering investing in installing solar panels.
