Political Director of the Prime Minister of Hungary Balázs Orbán had the opportunity to give a brief insight into his main ideas discussed in his two works on contemporary Hungarian foreign policy, The Hungarian Way of Strategy and Hussar Cut: The Hungarian Strategy for Connectivity, at the recent National Conservatism Conference in Washington, DC. He delivered a comprehensive speech that basically critiqued neoliberalism and advocated for national conservatism instead.

DeMuth emphasized the core principles of national conservatism: advocating for sovereign nations with secure borders, promoting welfare for all citizens, and ensuring a government actively concerned with maintaining a healthy culture. Over the past five years, the movement has gained significant traction, he reminded, noting that it is now achieving success in the voting booths and is becoming mainstream. DeMuth also underscored the movement’s alignment with the Freedom Conservatism Statement of Principles.

‘Besides the less remote Iberian Peninsula, the Center for Fundamental Rights now runs a dedicated operation aimed towards the oft-neglected south of the Western hemisphere, amounting to twenty-two countries, nine time zones, two languages—and countless parties, think tanks, civic groups, and allies spread from the borderland Rio Grande down to the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. This empire of actionable ideas will grow by persuasion rather than force, not as a sovereign entity but as a loose constellation of like-minded partners comparing notes on their parallel journeys to power.’

‘Why did the left-wing oligarchy (a political-administrative and academic-media apparatus) mobilize its militant wing against a conference of a few hundred conservatives? Did it fear that its political opponents would win too many hearts, minds, and Euros? No. Canceling the original, sought-after venue was a naked exercise of its power. Réseau Ades warned that the agitation efforts will persist until NatCon Brussels 2024 is entirely aborted.’

In the third and fourth decades of the 21st century, national–conservative forces will have a chance to end the left-liberal cultural hegemony that has been dominating for a hundred years now. This is where the natural alliance between right-wing party politics and the national intelligentsia takes on historic significance.
