This year’s horse racing season kicks off on Easter Sunday at Kincsem Park with eight races, starting with galloping. Besides horse races, various themed events also await visitors throughout spring and summer.

Kincsem won all 54 races she ran, a record that holds to this day. However, as a filly, she was never sold because of her plain looks—which ended up greatly benefitting her owner Ernő Blaskovich.

While there are only two cold-blooded horses that originate from historical Hungary, there are several warmbloods. Of the Hungarian warmblood horses, the most famous one is probably the Hucul pony, also known as the Carpathian pony. This breed is a direct descendant of wild horses.

The Hungarian people were born to ride horses, and their love of horse sports is encoded in their genes. If we continue to do excellent work in every area of equestrian culture as those before us like the Andrássy family did, or contemporary enthusiasts like András Tombor do now, we can look to the future with hope.
