Researcher at the HUN-REN Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences Krisztián Sárneczky was elected one of the newest honorary members of the International Astronomical Union. In addition to his work in popularizing science, he has recently achieved outstanding results in the field of planetary defence as well.

The HUN-REN Institute of Earth Physics and Space Science has announced that their new, state-of-the-art facility in Sopron, Hungary is entering the test phase within a few weeks. It can help with space developments, medical diagnostics innovations, biophysics and materials science experiments, the institute wrote.

Researchers at the HUN-REN Institute of Experimental Medicine (KOKI) have uncovered the precise mechanisms occurring at synapses using an extremely high-resolution microscope. The significance of the discovery is underscored by its publication on the cover of Science Advances, one of the world’s leading scientific journals.

A study led by Csaba Kerepesi, a researcher at the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory of the HUN-REN Computer and Automation Research Institute, demonstrated that the occurrence of autoimmune side effects during cancer immunotherapy correlates with the tumour’s immune microenvironment, particularly the emergence of new antigens during tumour mutations, and the number of CD8+ T-cells infiltrating the tumour.

This initiative aims to enhance the scientific utilization of data from planetary exploration spacecraft like JUICE. A comprehensive overview of the experiment was recently published in the prestigious Space Science Reviews journal.

At the event, President of the Hungarian Research Network Balázs Gulyás spoke about how this inaugural scientific workshop aims to be the flagship of the John von Neumann Programme. The plan is to organize international conferences like this every three months.
