The winners of the 66th edition of the award show were announced live on air on M4 Sport, at the ceremonial Athletes of the Year Awards show at the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest on Monday evening.

In her letter to Jenő Kamuti, President of the International Fair Play Committee, Katalin Novák said that she personally nominates Áron Szilágyi for the International Fair Play Award for his exemplary actions in the final of the Gerevich–Kovács–Kárpáti Men’s Sabre World Cup on 26 March 2023.

Balázs Havasi, Judit Polgár, Ernő Rubik, István Szabó and Áron Szilágyi — five great contemporary Hungarians who have achieved unmatched successes.

It would be incorrect to say that Hungarian prowess in sabre-fencing began only in the modern era, when the sport of Olympic fencing was invented. Even before the Conquest period, sabres were extensively used by Magyar nomads, and were found in graves dated prior to their arrival in the Carpathian Basin.
