In a missive addressed to European Commissioner for Budget and Administration on Thursday, the Hungarian Minister of Finance recalled that there is a long-standing consensus that the defence of the European Union’s borders is a collective responsibility of the member states, and yet, Hungary bears almost exclusively the financial burden of the protection of its southern, Schengen border.

In the interview, President of the Republic Katalin Novák underscored Hungary’s key role in protecting the EU’s Schengen border, highlighted the Hungarian government’s unique family policy, stressed the importance of starting peace talks to end the war on Ukraine, and reiterated Hungary’s support for Israel.

The conflict most likely broke out between a group of migrants and an organized human smuggler group. It went on for hours into the early morning, terrifying the residents of Horgos. This is actually the second similar incident in just a few weeks at the Serbian-Hungarian border.

Czech toponyms that include the adjective ‘Hungarian’ allude to the historical, centuries-old relationship between Hungary and Czechia that has not always been perfect, but nonetheless close. Regarding the release of human smugglers by the Budapest administration, Schallenberg stated that the development sends ‘a completely wrong signal’ and demanded full clarification from Hungary on the matter.

According to Frontex, the number of illegal border crossings has reached a record level, increasing by 292 percent on the Mediterranean route between January and April compared to the same period last year.

Apart from causing tragic suffering for the locals and posing a major threat to foreign nationals living in Sudan, the civil war is unfortunately also expected to result in an increase in the number of people trying to enter the EU illegally.

The train carrying around 1,000 Ferencváros fans to the Europa League match in Leverkusen was stopped by German police at the Czech-German border. According to one witness, the fans were told they pose a threat to Germany.

Compared to last year, the number of illegal border crossings at the Czech-German border increased by roughly 140 per cent in June, and even more migrants made generally successful attempts to enter Germany in August.

Kosovo’s decision to mandate the use of Kosovo-issued IDs and license plates sparked border tensions with Serbia earlier this month. Despite recent EU-mediated talks in Brussels, the two countries have not yet settled their dispute.
