Among the nominees for Category B of the New European Bauhaus Prize there is a Hungarian project titled Cooperative Ownership for Communities. It aims to create a multifunctional space by transforming a four-story building in one of Budapest’s old industrial areas. The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 Ceremony will be held during the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels between 9 and ⁠13 April.

Budapest’s recognized initiatives as part of the programme included the car-free weekend organized with the involvement of the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), as well as the European Car-Free Day held on weekdays, during which Mayor Gergely Karácsony presented plans for the human-friendly and green renewal of the lower embankment of Pest. The programme also included events aimed at showcasing best practices in pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly developments, jointly organized with the city of Vienna, targeting both the general public and professionals.

The Széchenyi István Hungarian School and Kindergarten in New Brunswick (New Jersey) celebrated its 50th anniversary. The welcoming speeches were followed by an award ceremony, where former school principal Gyula Varga was awarded; then, former principals shared their experience and thoughts on preserving our language and culture.

At the 96th Oscar Gala held in Los Angeles Zsuzsa Mihalek, the set designer of Poor Things, received the American Film Academy’s award for Best Production Design. The award was accepted by Shona Heath and James Price on behalf of Zsuzsa Mihalek.

A total of 23 applications were received, of which 19 were considered valid and worthy of support by the evaluation committee.

The winners of the 66th edition of the award show were announced live on air on M4 Sport, at the ceremonial Athletes of the Year Awards show at the Hungarian State Opera House in Budapest on Monday evening.

At an award ceremony recognizing excellence in tourism, State Secretary Csaba Dömötör acknowledged the resilience of the Hungarian tourism sector, standing on multiple pillars, diverse experiences, and the commendable dedication of the awarded professionals.

Hungarian director Béla Tarr is set to be honoured with the Honorary Award by the President and Board of the European Film Academy at the 36th European Film Awards in Berlin on 9 December.

In her remarks before she presented the highest Hungarian state awards on the occasion of the 20 August national holiday, President of the Republic Katalin Novák stated: ‘We need role models with whom we speak the same language, with whom we share a common history, who are like us, yet more and better than us, whom we can look up to while recognising ourselves in them.’

Kristóf Deák’s 2022 crime drama was awarded in the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature category at the Stony Brook Film Festival. The director has won an Academy Award as well in the past for one of his previous works.
